"There is no doubt that Garibaldi's romantic career in a lifelong fight for freedom was born of a liking for the fray, to express it bluntly, with freedom as a convenient excuse. This sounds unkind, but it is not. Garibaldi loved peace so much that he was willing to fight for it any day."

Goodwill

I had a fun time tonight at Goodwill. I was surprised at the great books they had on the shelves, which, of course, were ridiculously cheap. Here's what I found:

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald
Women, Race, & Class by Angela Y. Davis
Cane River by Lalita Tademy
The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Dasai
Selected Poetry and Prose of Byron
A General introduction to Psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud
The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
Middlemarch by George Eliot
Speaking Our Minds: Conversations With the People Behind Landmark First Amendment Cases by Joseph Russomanno (soooo crazy that I came across this book, the author and I have been communicating by email the last few days about organizing ACLU-sponsored events at ASU during Free Speech Week in October, and I had no idea he wrote a book until I saw his name on the shelf tonight and I was like whaaaaaat)

All these gems for $22.50. Can you believe it? They're all in pretty fantastic condition, as well, particularly the Freud copy, which is nuts because it's from 1975. It's original price was $1.95, only .45 more than what I paid tonight!

In other news, I've found an apartment and I adore it. :) The apartment grounds are stunning, charming, and lush with green plants, flowers, and growth. Vines grow all over the buildings, there are several very old looking fountains, stone archways, huge patios with cascading vines, I could go on. The great news is that my unit is north facing, and everyone tells me that's pretty much the most important thing when apartment or home hunting. The less direct sun, the better.

I'll post later on what kind of work I'm doing, it's fascinatin' stuff.
